Commencement of Autonomous Software Trials

BAE Systems recently began trials of autonomous software and cloud detection technology that together enables the avoidance of bad weather. These trials took place over the Irish Sea, with the aircraft successfully flying autonomously, with human pilot backup as a precaution.

The next trial will test infrared sensors that can be used to avoid built up areas when landing. A subsequent trial will use these technologies as input to the autonomous flight control software.
